Using discussion forums to build targeted traffic to your website!
Back to the basics! Building traffic using discussion forum has gone to be one of the easiest and more powerful ways to get people flocking to your website, and ready to buy.
While you're waiting for your website to be included in the internet directories and search engines, you can get some immediate traffic to your website by participating in the many discussion forums found on the internet.
How the process works?
Once you find 5 or 6 heavily populated discussion forums, you should subscribe to them and bookmark them in your browser. You should visit each forum weekly to reply to messages and to keep the traffic flowing to your site.
When you are reading through the posts at these forums, just reply to messages that allow you to show that you can help. Give no more than a paragraph or two of tips and advice. Never answer posts with just one sentence answers. That will not label you as an expert. You must give to get. Therefore, give some good advice so people believe that you are knowledgeable. Then, let your signature file sell people on visiting your site.
If you frequent a particular set of forums long enough, your name starts to get pretty well known. And the better known you become, the more people will visit your website and the more sales you'll make.
A few tips and tricks for using forums
When people are behind their computers they sometimes get extra bold. Discussions sometimes get a little out of control and people sometimes start insulting each other (commonly called FLAMING). You should never get into a shouting match with anyone in a forum. It hurts your credibility as an expert.
If someone doesn't like your advice or opinion... just let it slide. Move on to the next message.
Also, you must remember to follow the rules of the forum so I suggest that you simply "lurk" for a few days. Look at some of the posts and look at some of the replies. Get a feel for how the discussion is going before you give your opinion. Also make sure you read the FAQ section of every forum you plan to participate in.
The internet isn't the only place to find discussion forums. You can also find them on the online services like AOL and MSN. If you use any of these services, just search for the discussion groups that they offer.
REMEMBER: you should only join the moderated forums that have lots of subscribers.
The reason you want a heavily populated forum is so that many people can read your replies. When you reply to a message in a forum, you should show your expertise. Give good advice, but never try to sell your product or get people to visit your website. Just answer the posts that you feel you can contribute something of value to.
